Fire, smoke, and our challenges

2020 has been quite a year now adding fires to the list weighing on our souls… but as I tell my little one today who woke up rumbling and mumbling (I did too internally as well) of all the negatives from this situation:

you are not alone sweet one, we all feel it, we all want to list out and marinate on the negative (I wonder why our human nature is so prone to focusing on the bad) but as I have learned “what we focus on grows ” the more negatives we focus on the more we will find and the heavier our hearts will feel and honestly the bitter we get yet the same can be said for the positives and good things so we played our “yes but” game:

YES it’s smoky outside BUT we have clean air in our house.
YES it will be a hard day of not playing outside BUT we get to live a new day together as a family
YES we are stuck inside (anxiously praying and waiting) BUT we have a home to be in, we have clothes and food and books/toys
YES we have all the lights on because it is so dark with the smoke BUT we have electricity!
YES it is not very safe to drive and visit family or friends BUT we know they are safe
Etc etc

See how it works? It is amazing how a simple shift in perspective towards finding the things we are grateful for can impact your whole day and attitude and soul.

We continue to pray and ask for prayers to an end for the fires, for our firefighters, and for all those who have lost their homes during this time that they find refuge and kindness in us as we are called to act as the hands and feet of Jesus during this time
